Golden Plexi by Tone City Audio (Guitar pedal review, test, sound demos)

Pedal Frenzy by Have Guitar!

A golden small metal box that brings out the sound from a Marshall Plexi amp, is that possible? With ToneCity Audio’s Golden Plexi it is and that is the subject for this video! It is small, it is cheap and it can make your tones scream like a pig on fire. Well… actually it will sound better than that… I never lit a pig on fire but I do imagine this sounds better…

I must just say this, I kinda ran into a problem when I was trying out the pedal. It sounded fantastic when I used it with a clean tone but as soon as I switched to a profile with some gain it immediately became too much. Too fat, too compressed and just too much in general! I guess I had not done my homework properly on this pedal, seems to be intended to be plugged in to the clean channel of an amplifier.

As I usually use the same guitar for the whole video when it comes to effetc pedals, due to the above fact I used different guitars with different clean profiles instead. You know, trying to create a video with more overview perspective so to speak.

This demo/review is done with a Kemper Profiling Amp, with the stomp box plugged in to the front of the Kemper. The Kemper sounds and reacts very much like a classic (or modern!) tube amp and it takes pedals just a real amp. Just wanna make that clear!

And there we are! I hope you like the video – comments, both positive and negative are welcome – I’m always looking for opinions to make my videos better. Wanna support me? Subscribe to Have Guitar! Likes and sharing the videos are also welcome. A big Thank You goes out to all of you who already subscribe!!!

Dark Matter by TC Electronics (Distortion pedal test / review)

Dark Matter by TC Electronics (Distortion pedal test / review)
Pedal Frenzy by Have Guitar

Here’s another Pedal Frenzy where I take a look at TC Electronics Dark Matter, a distortion pedal for electric guitar. So, I didn’t really know much about this stomp when I ordered it from Thomann. I know the brand TC Electronics, since the mid 80’s but back then my impression was that it was a high-end quite expensive brand. Or was it me being poorer back then? I don’t really know but this pedal is not expensive!

I can say already that I was pleased by the sounds this pedal can pull off, the sound certainly is not cheap. So in this video I test it out with a bunch different Kemper profiles, trying to cover a wide range of amp styles and sounds to see how the Dark Matter affects the sound.

Yeah, it’s an epic video – considering it’s lenght! Is that a bad thing? I don’t know, I just prefer content over 2 minute videos. But… for your pleasure I have put in an index to the video below so you can jump to the part you wanna see.

Index:
02:09 – Live Ready Sound Tweed profile, low gain to crunch (gain 2/10)
06:33 – ReamZone Framus Dragon profile, clean sound with some delay (gain 0/10)
11:59 – BM Profiles Friedman BE 100 profile, quite high gain (gain 6/10)
16:04 – Pete’s Profiles Wizard profile, crunch sound (gain 3/10)
20:09 – ToneJunkie Matchless profile, clean sound (gain 0/10)
25:37 – Conclusion along with some rambling

Hey! I hope liked this video and if so please do subscribe! Doesn’t cost you a dime but gives me the support I need to carry on this craziness… As always a Very Big Thanks to all you who do sub – it’s just fantastic!

FX600 by Behringer (Effect pedal demo)

Pedal Frenzy by Have Guitar

This time around we’ll have a look the guitar multi-effects pedal FX600 from Behringer. This stomp pedal is an alternative for those who are on a tighter budget as it only costs around 20 euros (about 22 USD). The FX600 comes with no less than six different effects: Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Tremolo and Pitch Shifter. Maybe I should add this is a 24-bit digital effects pedal as well. (There isn’t much more technical spec’s available than this!)

Alright, so in this demo/review I will playing a Fender Stratocaster, through the Kemper Profiling Amp – the Behringer FX600 is hooked up through the Kempers FX loop. And if you didn’t – the Kemper takes pedals as well as any tube amplifier. I have chosen to use Kemper profiles from ToneJunkie’s 67 Supery Verb pack – Kemper profiles taken from a Fender Super Reverb from 67. I have consistently used one all clean profile and one slightly overdriven profile for all of the effects in the FX600.

Due to user failure all the closeups of the FX600 while playing with the clean profile was shot in timelapse mode, so there will not be any close-ups of that – sorry!

Index:
02:00 – Profiles used
03:19 – Flanger
05:12 – Chorus
07:33 – Phaser
09:23 – Delay
12:23 – Tremolo
15:06 – Pitch Shifter
17:06 – Conclusion

Fulltone OCD Overdrive (Stomp pedal test)

Fulltone OCD Overdrive (Stomp pedal test)
Pedal Frenzy by Have Guitar

It’s time to take a closer look at the Fulltone OCD, is there any guitarist that haven’t heard about this pedal? It should “replicates the dynamics and harmonics of a fully-wound tube amplifier with its typical output stage distortion” and I’ve seen it described both as an overdrive and a distortion effect. I guess it has the characteristics of both.

I guess the Fulltone OCD doesn’t need any closer introduction, it’s a classic pedal and for more info check out the link to Fulltone’s webpage provided below. I’ll add a link to a fantastic video from ToneJunkie that compares all the different versions of the OCD, go see it – it’s really worth the time watching it.

HG-6 Distortion Pedal from NUX (stomp box demo) by Have Guitar!

HG-6 Distortion Pedal from NUX (stomp box demo) by Have Guitar!
Pedal Frenzy from Have Guitar!

It’s Saturday nite special bonus bonanza Pedal Frenzy from Have Guitar!

Looking for a cheap distortion stomp box? Well, maybe you should just turn your head in another direction then. No, I got some descent sounds out from this NUX HG-6 distortion pedal but it sure did not go well with the Kemper.

And the HG-6 is cheap, I got it for around 20 Euros (24.6 USD) from China and be sure not to pay a penny more than that! It has some features that sounds promising like true bybass, analogue circuits and Tube simulation… and as said, it is not completely useless unless you have a Kemper – in that case I would rather recommend you to use the Kempers internal effects. but anyways, it’s red and you might have a chance of winning this pedal in the future so look out!

I do hope that you liked this video and if you do – pretty please subscribe to my channel, to support me. More Sub’s open up the possibilities for more varied videos on Have Guitar! To each and every one already subscribing – Thank You, the support is very much appreciated!
