Mr Speed by KISS (Bass lesson with TABs)

What you’re watching is a bass lesson for Mr. Speed by KISS, provided with tabulature and detailed instructions. I decided to split up the bass and guitar lessons to different videos and this is the first where I do it… unless you count the lesson for Black Diamond, where it was kinda mixed up.

I have also included two different parts; one where I play along with my recording and one where I go through the song more slowly and detailed, both versions includes TABs. I think maybe I did a little error on the first verse in the detailed part but watch the TABs and you’ll get it right. Shit happends…

As for the recording, my good friend Micke Back was kind enough to drag his drum kit over here and record three classic KISS songs with me. It’s refreshing working with a real drummer rather than having to program drums… but I am not a pro when it comes to mix live drums, still I am kinda happy with the result here. The mix heard in the video is actually not the final mix but good enough I hope… I’m actually thinking of re-doing the bass parts as my bass would really do well with a change of strings!

And if anyone is curious about the thumbnail picture, that is my last bike – a Honda Blackbird. I just thought that pic goes well with the song’s title. Unfortunately I had to give up my biker days due to a shoulder injury that took several years to heal… I’d like to ride again but currently it seems I invest my spare money into guitars instead! 😉

Black Diamond by KISS (Bass lesson & End solo lesson)

This is part two of my lesson for KISS Black Diamond, this time with the bass and the end lead part. For the first video check out the links below (rhythm guitar and the first lead). The Black Diamond backing track featured in this video is recorded by me (I might put that up as a separate video later on!).

I wanna point out I miss a very small part of the lead towards the end but if you follow the TAB’s on-screen you’ll figure it out – I play it as it should be in the backing track. Also don’t forget to check out KISS live on the Destroyer tour, link provided below…

So KISS was rockin in the 70’s and so could you be, if you subscribe to my channel! Thanks for watching and a Big Fat Thanks to all you subscribing, t-t-t-thanks!

Great Expectations by KISS (Lesson for guitar & bass)

Lessons by Have Guitar!

Time for a lesson on how to play Great Expectations by KISS. Both guitar and bass! Not overly comlicated but what a great song, if you ask me… this track comes from Destroyer and was released in 1976. As it happends it was the first rock album that I got my hands on and after that there was no turning back, whatever the current trends says (grin).

Some people might say that Destroyer was ‘over-produced’ but I think the sound of that album is fantastic, it kinda captures the image of KISS – especially in the new costumes they got for that album. From what I know the song has only been performed live once and that was during the recording of ‘Symphony Alive IV’, understandable as it kinda feels a bit empty when scaled down to just guitars, bass and drums.

Anyways, I hope you liked the lesson and maybe even had some use of it… if you wanna support Have Guitar – subscribe, see the link below. Big appreciation goes out to all of You who do subscribe, Thanks!!!

Parasite by KISS (Guitar & Bass Lesson)

Let’s Play! by Have Guitar!

Time for another lesson in the noble art known as guitar playing! And if you guess it’s a classic KISS song – you’re absolutely right! This one has been requested and as a humble servant I hear and obey, this is Parasite from the album Hotter Than Hell! Lessons for rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass included.

Parasite was written by Ace Frehley for the KISS-album Hotter Than Hell, recorded in August 1974 and released October 22 the same year. While written by Ace, it’s Gene Simmons doing the lead vocals. There are some small differencies between the studio and the live version, especially in the guitar solo – it’s the Alive! version I’ve used as a reference for this lesson.

I do hope you liked this video and that you might have some use for it! If you wanna support Have Guitar – subscribe!! A Big Thank You to you who already do!

Nothin’ To Lose by KISS (Guitar and Bass Lesson)

Let’s Play! by Have Guitar!

Here’s a lesson on how to play the song Nothin’ To Lose by KISS – it covers rhythm and lead guitar and bass! Nothin’ To Lose was written by Gene Simmons and released on the first album KISS, released 18th of Febuary 1974.

This song was the first single released by KISS (B-side was Love Theme from KISS), vocals performed by Gene Simmons and Peter Criss. Besides that it’s one of the few times a non-member of the band has has been listed as a playing musician, namely Bruce Foster on piano and additional guitar. Nothin To Lose was also later released as B-side to the single Kissin’ Time.

I’ve based this lesson on the Alive! version of Nothin To Lose, the difference is not major – mainly that last part of the solo. The drums comes from a midifile I found online, it mentions “Enzo” as the author so cudos to him. I stripped the midi file and used XLN Audio Addictive Drums II and also edited the midi drums here and there. All guitars and bass on the track is recorded by me.

This is the eight guitar lesson for classic KISS songs on Have Guitar!, so far I have covered: She, Deuce, Shock Me, 2000 Man, Room Service, I Want You and Calling Dr Love. If you like this series – subsscribe now for more songs! And feel free to gimme suggestions in the comments of this video!

A really heartfelt Thank You to all you who subscribe!

She by KISS (Guitar & Bass Lesson)

Let’s Play! by Have Guitar!

Time for another guitar lesson and this time I’ve picked out She by KISS, from the album ‘Dressed To Kill’ released 19th of March 1975. So, as usual I will include lessons for rhythm guitar, bass and lead guitar – and this time I will try get the tab’s right too!

This song is a slow and heavy rock classic written by Gene Simmons and Stephen Coronel, actually while they still were in the band ‘Bullfrog Bheer’ – pre-KISS. The song was originally called “She walks by moonlight” after a line in the movie “Hondo” (see link below!). The song was also a part of Wicked Lester’s repertoire but the KISS version is longer and lacks some odd instruments like the congas from Wicked Lesters recording.

The recording you can hear in my video is originally from a project I started in 2009, where I recorded the full ‘Dress To Kill’ album. Why?! Because I had just picked up the guitar after a long break and I just needed something to motivate me playing… As I write I have a singer to do the vocals, so I guess that will be released as a cover video here.

Those drums are from a MIDI file I found online as I am too lazy to do the programming myself (I might have edited a bit in a couple of parts that was exceptionally bad) and the guitars are all me. I believe the rhythm part was recorded with a Line 6 POD XT, a little bit too heavy sounding perhaps but I decided they are good enough to keep. The lead parts was re-recorded just now as the old ones wasn’t up to par, it’s played through my Kemper with a profile from Live Ready Sound’s 79 Mini Bender profile pack.

The bass (on my track) is played by Björn ‘Burnie’ Öman, a fantastic bass player who’s sadly not with us anymore.

And that’s it, I hope you get some use for this lesson! Subscriptions are always welcome – and of course a Big Thank You to you who do subscribe!!

Room Service by KISS (Guitar and Bass lesson)

Room Service by KISS (Guitar and Bass lesson)
Guitar & Bass lesson by Have Guitar

A new guitar and bass lesson – Room Service by KISS! This the first song of KISS album Dressed To Kill, a nice high tempo rocker about the life on the road. In this lesson I will show you how to play it all; rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass!

For the first time I created tabulature for the lessons! I’m pretty sure there might be some minor mistakes as it’s the first time I do this, there’s room for improvement! Anyways, I hope it makes following the lesson a little easier.

As previously stated I will try to do one classic KISS song every month nad I think this is the third month in a row that I manage to keep that promise! What will be up next in August? Not sure yet so feel free to gimme some suggestions!

There we go – I hope you liked the video, thanks for watching Have Guitar! A subscription is always welcome… as if I need to say that? A Big Thanks to all you who do subscribe!!!

I Want You by KISS (Guitar & Bass Lesson)

Let’s Play! by Have Guitar

Got the steam up! Here’s another guitar and bass lesson for you who like classic hard rock – I Want You by KISS, from the album Rock and Roll Over. As I say in the video, this song is for me when Paul Stanley was at his peak of songwriting – it’s a simple riff based song but put together in a very appealing package. Personally I must I admire the ability to make so much out of so little – that’s bordeline genius in this context.

So I have split up this lesson as I usually do, into smaller parts… for the first time I’ll toss in parts of my recording of the song as a reference before the actual lessons. Hopefully it’ll make it easier and especially if you are not that familiar with the song (but you should listen to the original first!).

Below you’ll find an index to the video if you wanna skip to a specific part. Thanks for watching Have Guitar, if you like it feel free to support me with a subscription to the channel. Free for you but gives me the support I need… A very Big Thank You goes out to all of you who already do so!

Calling Dr Love by KISS (Guitar & Bass lesson)

Let’s Play by Have Guitar!

And now it’s time for a new guitar lesson, and actually bass lesson as well! As it was requested in another video, this is my take of KISS Calling Dr. Love. In this video you’ll get the whole package; rhythm guitars, bass lines and the solo part of the that song! This song is not overly complicated but if you like it, it’s fun to play never the less!

Just wanna say that my version of Calling Dr. Love, that you can find at the end of this video is a very simple recording! For the drums I usually take a midi file and use those drums with a VST instrument. In this case the midi version I found was not very good – it even started with a small drum solo… The guitars are just recorded once, I have not doubled them or anything like that. Still it works as a “blueprint” to practising. There is a version out on Youtube with almost only bass and drums that you can use if you want to – see the link further down.

Other than that I do not think this song requires any more detailed presentation. You might not like KISS and that is fine by me. People have lots of prejudices regarding the show and the makeup to this very day, which is kinda weired as every artist nowadays seems to have larger stage shows than KISS had in the 70’s. It’s a good stompin’ and hard driving rock tune, that’s all there is to it.

Thanks for watching Have Guitar! If you liked this guitar lesson why don’t you subscribe to my channel? The support will be very appreciated. And as in every video, a Very Big Thank YOU to all you who do subscribe. Could not do it without you!
